In 2017, our old company Atzgerei and I produced a music video for the Viennese band, The Weight.

The idea was to recreate or animate the covers of The Weight’s favorite records, with them inside.

A studio battle and a difficult search for real locations began. We had a lot of fun with the crew and, after 10 days of shooting, we had the video in the can. This was followed by three months of post-production and „TROUBLE“ was finished.

The music video for the Vienna-based band „The Weight“ was produced in 2016/17.

The band is committed to 60s and 70s rock ’n‘ roll and the video sees itself as
Homage to famous vinyl covers from the period.

So the idea was born to take the band on a psychedelic journey through 46 different artworks of their heroes; the
Atzgerei has set itself the goal of interpreting these 46 different worlds as faithfully as possible to the original, but without creating flat and colorless copies of these masterpieces.

The journey itself became the focus of the work, i.e. the paths and transitions from one cover to another as well as connections of a thematic or visual nature.

„Trouble“ was shot in just eight full days of shooting in the Atzgerei studio in Vienna. Both the budget and the team were very small, but this resulted in the etching shop again characteristic style that deliberately plays with „trash“, improvises and experiments, but at the same time high-quality images thanks to professional equipment, know-how and consistency
generated.

Most of the scenes were shot in front of a green screen, but almost all of the scenery was hand-painted by us, many of the costumes were tailored or made by ourselves, the „craft factor“ is therefore very high. All of the animations and illustrations in a wide variety of styles and techniques, as well as the extremely complex compositing, were also included in this small 3-piece
team accomplished.

Not a single element, letter or stone remained from the original covers: everything was recreated, -built and -illustrated. But what has remained is the impression thatStyle, the idea and the spirit of the album covers.
